The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

Rating: 5/5 stars Pages: 388 Genre: Historical Fantasy, Young Adult Publisher: Wednesday Books Release Date: January 15, 2019

It's 1889. The city is on the cusp of industry and power, and the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the streets and dredged up ancient secrets. Here, no one keeps tabs on dark truths better than treasure-hunter and wealthy hotelier Séverin Montagnet-Alarie. When the elite, ever-powerful Order of Babel coerces him to help them on a mission, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance. To hunt down the ancient artifact the Order seeks, Séverin calls upon a band of unlikely experts: An engineer with a debt to pay. A historian banished from his home. A dancer with a sinister past. And a brother in arms if not blood. Together, they will join Séverin as he explores the dark, glittering heart of Paris. What they find might change the course of history--but only if they can stay alive.

QUICK REVIEW NOTE: So! Yes, the review I had planned for today... err yesterday (I’m a mess, let’s not mention it) unfortunately didn’t happen. Many apologies for that, I was bad at keeping track of time and unfortunately, the book was archived before I could finish. I’m gonna try to get a copy when it comes out so I can finish reading and post a review.

BUT ONTO TO MY THOUGHTS ON THE GILDED WOLVES: BUT I am excited to post this bonus review! So, my friends have been raving about The Gilded Wolves since it came out last year, and I’ve had the book hanging out in my TBR for almost that long haha— seriously though that cover is gorgeous. But I finally sat down and read (devoured) it.

I absolutely so enjoyed this book. The writing style is beautiful and has this amazing and easy to read flow to it. Honestly, I read a lot of dark shit, and I needed a breath of something not so dark, and I absolutely loved the banter, so well done. And I thought the ensemble part was done really well. It’s hard to do (fuck I can’t do it, and I often don’t enjoy reading it cause I latch onto one character that I like and don’t care about the others). But yes, I loved that part of this book, I thought it was well done and they worked well to balance each other's traits. AND I can’t wait till the second book The Silvered Serpents comes out this fall (Sept 22! Add it on goodreads!). Anyway, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good heist, is a fan of ensemble casts, and generally loves older YA!
