New Year, New Book
So, as a few of you know, I have a polished draft of Erut’s Choice, and it’s currently hanging out with some awesome betas, while I sit here and panic. It’s been a long time coming, and now I have to find something new to work on obsessively, and it lined up so wonderfully with the new year. And that means that:
2019 is the year of the epic!
This is just my obnoxious way of saying that I’m officially focusing on revisions for my epic.
And what does this mean for Erut’s Choice?
It means that I’m moving onto the next stage of my writing journey—that is, depending on what feedback I get from betas. Ideally, I would have minimal things to fix, and would move onto querying it within a few months, but chances are there will be another revision of Erut’s Choice sometime this year, and then I’ll be querying. And while I’m querying and waiting for beta feedback, my plan is to be working on my epic.
Anyway, as for my epic, I’m sure you’re all wondering what it’s about, and if it has a working title. The short answer is yes, it has a working title. I keep threatening to change the working title, but I can’t seem to settle on anything I like, so for now I’m referring to it as:
Words of the Gods.
And if you’re interested in what it’s about, a link to the working blurb can be found here. It's full of rebellion, strong and angry women, a ton of magic, and a flying city. So you know, the usual.
And as for a revision plan, I’m not sure I have one yet. I’ve read through it a couple times, and I have a list of things I need to fix. There will be heavy rewrites, because that’s how I seem to work best and I want to beef up the prose. I’m going for a sort of bleak tone, and I want to up the stakes in a lot of places. Oh, and the target for the second draft is 200,000 words (and no, I don’t want any opinions on this number). And perhaps we’ll take bets on how long it’ll take me to finish this one, currently, based on how long it’s taken me to get Erut’s Choice to where it is, I’m gonna go with 3 years. Hit me up in the comments if you have a guess (and yes, never is a valid guess, but it still makes you an ass.)
Happy 2019 friends, hope you have a great year, and if you’re working on any fun new projects in the new year, let me know what they are.
