Summary: After Ed Richie is shunted back 9 months to his former body, he struggles to figure out what it is happening to him, and is forced to revisit his former mistakes - with lovers, friends and work. With each involuntary time jump, he’s forced to confront more and more of his past - but where is this time travel ultimately leading him?

In 2030, Ella Croft, a journalist who has taken time away from work to research the life and disappearance of screenwriter and novelist Ed Richie, starts to unravel the mystery of where he went and what happened to him. As she interviews his friends and lovers, what she finds is a trail that leads to the impossible, and to a place that might just change her own life.

Note: I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley

So, we all know that I love time travel, and this book was no exception. It was a little more character-driven than what I usually lean towards, but I found Ed Richie to be an interesting, albeit at times deeply flawed, character. It was a book that examined not only human nature, but juxtaposed the question of “what if we could change the past” against a hauntingly realistic dystopian near-future. Something that I’m sure was no mistake.

This character-driven science fiction novel was a wonderful foray into examining the relationship between knowledge and choice, and what could happen if given the opportunity to “buy back time”. With brilliantly flawed characters, and compellingly realistic situations, this book was a real page turner, and left me completely attached to the characters and cheering for them.

Overall, all I can say is that I found this to be an intelligently put together book that tugged at my heart-strings in unexpected ways, and left me thinking about my own mistakes. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading some of E.M. Brown’s other books.

I’ll recommend this to anyone who enjoys thoughtful character-driven books!
